This is the epitome of California-chic dining in the trendy Mission District, brought to you by Thomas McNaughton, of upscale pizzeria flour + water fame (another worthy dining option, it’s at 2401 Harrison St.). Here, a covered garden patio provides alfresco dining space year round; and the open kitchen sets the tone for a laid back, relaxed feel. In that kitchen, McNaughton creates such delectables as hen roulade with confit of radish; raw Hamachi with kumquat, fennel, poppy seed and chili; black cod with artichoke; and beef tartare with oyster, buttermilk flatbread, frisee, and dill. The entrance is set back from the street, to the left of the McNaughton-owned market/cafe, Salumeria. Both share the 3000 address. Look up and left for the small, square Central Kitchen sign.
