Located inside Old San Juan’s Antiguo Convento de los Dominicos, a restored former convent, the Galeria Nacional has exhibits from the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture’s vast holdings. These range from Spanish colonial religious art to important works by Puerto Rican masters José Campeche and Francisco Oller to pieces by Rafael Tufiño and others from the “generation of the 1950s”, artists who excelled in painting and printmaking. The museum also stages exhibits by contemporary artists. The museum closed to the public in November 2013 for renovations and is slated to reopen by January 2015.
