Frommer's Review
San Antonio's newest attraction, this multimillion-dollar downtown entertainment complex just keeps growing -- and getting better. Ripley's Haunted Adventure, which debuted in 2002, is a 10,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art haunted house (if that's not a contradiction in terms), combining live actors, animatronics, and lots of special effects. The Guinness Museum, opened in 2003, brings the famed record book to life with such hands-on exhibits as a drum set that lets you see how hard it is to best the most-drum-beats-per-minute record and a multiple-choice quiz room where you can guess at the actual world record. Davy Crockett's Tall Tales Ride, opened in March 2005, combines a theme park-style ride through Davy's life and times with an interactive outpost where, among other things, you can wrestle with a bear (the real history's left to the Alamo, across the street, while this stuff is based on Crockett's colorful self-fictions). There are other Ripley's Haunted Adventure and Guinness World Records Museums in the country, but only here are the two combined, and the Davy Crockett adventure is unique to San Antonio. All in all, this a great place for the family to come for a little education and a lot of fun.
