Las Canarias ReviewThis is the perfect place for celebrating either a special occasion or the simple fact that you're wandering free in San Antonio. At night the multi-tiered dining room is softly lit and in the background you hear someone strumming a Spanish guitar. There are also some tables outside on the River Walk. Las Canarias is the hotel restaurant of Omni La Mansión del Río, and is located on a part of the river that isn't too noisy. The menu changes seasonally and is fairly adventurous, with a flair for presentation, but you will always find some standard options such as beef tenderloin or a traditional pasta. When I was last there, the menu featured caramelized scallops with a bit of pork belly and a garnish of pickled watermelon, also a duck confit with a cherry guajillo sauce. The kitchen will cook for special needs, but you should give advance notice. Also, even if there are vegetarian options on the menu, ask about off-menu dishes. If you really feel like exploring, check out the tasting menu, both with ($150) and without ($100) wine pairings. And there is a reasonably priced five-course prix fixe for $39. Please be sure to confirm all rates and details directly with the companies in question before planning your trip.

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
