This colorful, sprawling storefront attracts everyone from nouveau hippies to buttoned-down refugees from the convention center 5 minutes away. They come for Age-of-Aquarius-meets-south-of-the-border food: granola bowls and breakfast burritos in the morning, veggie sandwiches and pork tamales in the evening. There are cold cases full of reasonably priced wines and beers. You can also bring the kids to have afternoon tea, which can include peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches (crusts cut off, naturally). The NO CELLPHONES sign seems to be taking effect, so you no longer have to retreat from the bustling front room to have a conversation without hearing ringing in your ears (though the back room is very pleasant and still considerably quieter).
