This long-standing San Antonio favorite recently underwent a location -- and personality -- change. The wide-ranging menu that inspired local devotion is essentially the same, but the venue is now more upscale Mexico City than low-key San Antonio. Favorites include the enchiladas verdes in a tangy green tomatillo sauce, the Veracruz-style red snapper, and the vegetable chiles rellenos, a light, delicious version of the popular dish. There's a nice selection of soups, including a satisfying cream of chile poblano with corn, and caldo tlalpeño, a spicy tortilla soup. Two other things of note about this restaurant: You'll find a large a la carte menu for children, which has things like guacamole, rice, or a taco; and a gluten-free menu for people allergic to wheat. There's also a fairly hefty margarita menu, which I'm sure is gluten-free as well.
