Frommer's Review
Unless a trip to Scotland is in the cards, this could be your best chance to spend a night in a castle. Built in 1894 by English-born architect Alfred Giles, this massive limestone structure was commissioned by Edwin Terrell, a statesman who fell in love with the European grand style while serving as U.S. ambassador to Belgium. Turned into a bed-and-breakfast in 1986, it's an anomaly in the working-class area near the Fort Sam Houston quadrangle -- and a nice alternative to the many faceless chain lodgings around here. Guest rooms don't feature as many antiques as you'll see in the public areas, but they're comfortable and clean; several offer fireplaces. A variety of suites, as well as free lodging for children younger than 6 and the free use of a crib, make this B&B uncharacteristically family-friendly. There's a designated smoking area outside.
