Named after the famed European ski race, rather than the Afghani capital, Kandahar is one of the best restaurants in town. In this funky and colorful old house with cozy nooks, the food is creative and fresh. The rosehip soup is a great starter, as is the Kandahar salad with greens from the owner's garden and smoked venison. For main dishes, try homemade pastas such as gnocchi with olives, trout with spinach, rabbit with quince sauce, or peppered tenderloin. The desserts are excellent, including grilled spiced apples with ice cream. This place is always busy so a reservation is essential.
