Frommer's Review
Directly on the lakefront Costanera, just a few minutes' walk from the Civic Center, this venerable hotel is often overlooked, but it's difficult to understand why. It has a tremendous amount of stark, Scandinavian style, preferred by the Belgian immigrant who built the hotel in 1950, and perhaps that does not appeal to everyone. Nevertheless, the hotel has been superbly maintained, with architectural details such as wood ceilings and beechwood paneling, and the vast lounge area has dozens of chairs and a velvet couch to sink into while you gaze out over the lake. The backyard has a path that meanders through a pleasant garden. All the rooms have been renovated within the past year, with new bedding, paint, curtains, and carpet. All are warm and come with sparkling bathrooms. The look indoors is a bit outdated. Neither slick nor hip, it's still pretty and classic. Lake-view rooms are more expensive, but they might not be as desirable, given that loud traffic speeds by well into the night. During the 1960s, the hotel's red-leather bar was the "in" spot for Bariloche's fashionable set, and it hasn't been altered in the least. The service is very friendly.
