Iglesia de Santa María, on Calle Mayor (tel. 94-887-01-32), stands at the far end of town beside the river. Begun in the 12th century, it has a doorway from the 12th and 13th centuries that is an outstanding work of Romanesque art. The south portal, filled with remarkably carved sculptures, is Santa María's most outstanding feature. The vestry contains a 1.5m-high (4 1/2-ft.) processional monstrance from the 15th century. The church is open daily 10am to 1:30pm and 4:30 to 6:30pm; admission is free.

The nearby Iglesia de Santiago, on Calle Santrago 18 (tel. 94-887-01-32), is a late traditional Romanesque structure from the 12th and 13th centuries. It has a battlement-type tower and contains an impressive array of Gothic sculptures, discovered under the church only in 1964. Look for the bizarre statue of St. James atop a big conch. The church is open 30 minutes before Mass Monday to Friday at 8:30pm, Sunday noon and 8pm; admission is free.
