Frommer's Review
Though Midas is just a short walk from downtown San Ignacio, it feels a world away. The rooms are an excellent value when stacked up against other in-town options. The round Mayan-style cottages have thatch roofs and screen walls and there are also some wood cabins on raised stilts with corrugated roofs. All are comfortable, clean, and spacious, with ceiling fans and plenty of screened windows for ventilation. The wooden cabins come with their own private veranda, which I like. The hotel has ample grounds with plenty of shady trees. Camping here will run you BZ$8 (US$4) per person. The Macal River is only a stroll away down a grassy lane, and you can spend the day lounging on the little beach on the riverbank. The restaurant here serves good Belizean and international cuisine at excellent prices. To reach Midas, walk north out of town on Savannah Street, which is 1 block east of Burns Avenue. The hotel is only about half a mile (.8km) from the center of town.
