On busy nights here, the ambience is barely controlled chaos, with customers diving into big bowls of donburi and udon (Gombei's specialty, thick wheat noodles in a chicken broth filled with dried seaweed, green onion, and tender chunks of chicken) while the sprightly staff deftly negotiates around the crowded dining room. Be sure to check the specials board, which often lists some very esoteric Japanese entrees.
