Frommer's Review

Finca Rosa Blanca is an eclectic architectural confection set amid the lush, green hillsides of a coffee plantation. Square corners seem to have been prohibited in the design of this beautiful home. There are turrets and curving walls of glass, arched windows, and a semicircular built-in couch. Everywhere the glow of polished hardwood blends with blindingly white stucco walls and brightly painted murals.

Inside, original artwork is everywhere, and each room is decidedly unique. The black and white room has a patio and bed made from coffee-tree wood. Another room has a bed built into a corner and a handmade tub with windows on two sides. The view is fabulous. If breathtaking bathrooms are your idea of the ultimate luxury, consider splurging on the master suite, which has a stone waterfall that cascades into a tub in front of a huge picture window. This suite also has a spiral staircase that leads to the top of the turret. The two separate villas have the same sense of eclectic luxury, with small kitchenettes and quite a bit of space and privacy. All rooms are nonsmoking.

A four-course gourmet dinner will run you $35 (£18) per person. Be sure to reserve early because there's limited seating. In a tiny space off the living room, there's an honor bar tucked into a reproduction of a typical Costa Rican oxcart. In 2007, the hotel was partially closed for a major renovation and expansion. Scheduled for completion by January 2008 are a new spa, a new reception, several new rooms, and a larger restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating and an excellent view.

Facilities:
Restaurant; small honor bar; lounge; small free-form pool set in the hillside; small exercise room; Jacuzzi; concierge; tour desk; limited room service; in-room massage; babysitting; laundry service; nonsmoking rooms
