Removed from even the slow pace of San José, this courtyard hotel is older yet impeccably clean and friendly, and it's ideal for fishermen and those looking for something different from a traditional resort vacation. As it's smack in the middle of the Puerto Los Cabos master-planned community, it's not the quiet getaway it once was. However, it's the only hotel on the only beach in San José that's considered safe for swimming. Just steps from the water and the lineup of fishing pangas, the two stories of sunlit rooms frame a patio with a pool just large enough to allow you to swim laps. Each room is spacious, with high-quality basic furnishings, screened windows, a nicely tiled bathroom, and cable TV. Two large suites on the second floor have full kitchens. Next door, the hotel's new La Playita Grill serves breakfast and bloody marys from 7am to noon, and Tommy's Barefoot Bar (daily noon-9pm) offers a great mix of seafood and standard favorites, plus occasional live jazz or tropical music.
