Jutting out over the sand on the mile-long (1.6km) Isla Verde beach, this bargain oasis is a find. If you're less interested in being in the center of San Juan than you are in spending time on the beach, check out this modest choice. The hotel consists of two, two-story buildings, with a porch around the second floor and a small garden in front. Furnishings are modest and functional but comfortable nonetheless. Each room has a tidily maintained, small bathroom with a tiled shower. Standard but inexpensive Italian food is served at a beach bar and restaurant. The hotel doesn't have everything -- no pool, no room service -- but the price is hard to beat in Isla Verde.
