Your immersion into Basque culture will probably prompt you to buy handicrafts and accessories from the region. One of the best outlets is Txapela, Calle Puerto 8 (tel. 94-342-02-43). It sells souvenirs and the rough cotton shirts for which the Basques are famous. If you're looking for a boina (beret) or any other form of headgear, consider a visit to the venerable shelves of San Sebastián's oldest hat manufacturer, Ponsol, Calle Narrica 4 (tel. 94-342-08-76). For virtually anything else in the city, try the length of the most congested shopping district, Parte Vieja, where dozens of merchants hawk everything from T-shirts to cameras to film.
One shop is named for this shopping district: Parte Vieja, Calle Nagusia 3 (tel. 94-342-07-60), which is called a one-stop haberdashery of coolness. It's the hippest boutique to have opened in northeastern Spain in many a year. With its clothing and accessories, it's on the cutting edge, having "shopped the world" for trendy adornments ranging from rubber gladiator shoes to Brazilian rubber earrings in daring shapes and flamboyant colors.
