Hotel La Balestra ReviewPast a shopping complex in a modern building on the major road running along the north side of town, La Balestra provides more solid comfort than the Fiorentino. If you want large, carpeted rooms with built-in furniture and all the trimmings -- and don't mind the total lack of charm and 10-minute hike to the Pieros at the Museo Civico -- this is the place for you. Ask for a room off the front, as there's traffic all night. The moderately priced restaurant offers Tuscan dishes (the ricotta-stuffed cannelloni are good) and a decent wine list, and you can eat on a shaded veranda in summer. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
