The main Mercado Central (8a Av. Sur) is a chaotic, rambling collection of stalls selling everything from chickens to chicles. It is open daily from 7am to 5pm. For handicrafts, go to Mercado de Artesanías (1a Av. Sur), open Monday through Saturday from 8:30am to 6pm. Though Santa Ana doesn't have any small boutique shops worth mentioning, it does have a large modern shopping mall called MetroCentro (tel. 503/2440-6277) with chain stores, superstores, and a cinema. It's on Final Avenida Independencia Sur and is open daily from 9am to 9pm.
