Meson D'Bari ReviewIn the Colonial Zone, in what used to be a private family home, this restaurant has both ambience and good food. Paintings by Dominican artists -- the art is for sale -- decorate the walls of this handsomely restored building. The chefs use regional and freshly grown produce whenever possible, and dishes are well crafted by the staff. Our favorite main dish is filete a la criolla, or filet of beef Creole-style served with tomatoes, onions, and sweet peppers. Beef also appears in a number of other ways, including with a freshly made mushroom sauce. A savory crab stew is one of the best offerings. But savvy diners most often order the grilled fish, based on the catch of the day. The chefs also prepare a daily special that's really local, and may not be to your taste unless you get off on the likes of chivo guisado (stewed goat) or other regional fare. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
