La Villa

La Villa continues to reign as the top luxury option in Battambang. The luxury is packaged with immense style, in a beautiful colonial French villa on the east bank of the river. The villa has been extended but in such a way that it is hard to tell the old from the new. The beauty of the building is complemented by muted but tasteful Art Deco period furnishings. All the rooms are different -- we particularly liked the loft-style room on the top floor with its rustic wooden beams and scattered floor cushions. The rooms have sturdy four-poster beds with draped mosquito netting and faded black-and-white photos on the walls. The casual and slightly vague Francophone management go out of their way to be helpful without getting in your hair. The newly added swimming pool is a godsend in the hot season and is a great place to enjoy an early evening drink. If you're not staying here (and it is an expensive option, even though it is worth every dollar) it is worth dropping by for a meal or some refreshment just to soak up the atmosphere.
