The first art museum in Saratoga Springs, on the campus of Skidmore College, The Tang is most notable for its striking modern architecture. A visit here is a must for any fan of modern architecture. The stunning building in stone, concrete, and stainless steel by Antoine Predock slopes gently out of the ground and is surrounded by white pines, tucked neatly into the landscape; two large exterior staircases ascend and effectively create a short cut across campus that goes over the top of the building. The irregularly shaped galleries inside the 39,000-foot museum host often challenging contemporary art and cross-disciplinary exhibits focusing on fields like music and physics (highlighting its role as a teaching institution). Allow about an hour to explore.
