Currency Exchange -- ANZ Bank, Westpac Bank, and Colonial National Bank have offices with ATMs on the main street.

Emergencies -- In case of an emergency, phone tel. 917 for the police, and tel. 911 for fire or ambulance. The police station (tel. 885 0222) is east of town.

Healthcare -- Dr. Joeli Taoi (tel. 885 0721) has an office and pharmacy in the Palm Court shops, on the main street. The government hospital (tel. 885 0800) is east of town, in the government compound.

Internet Access -- Xerographic Solutions, in the Copra Shed (tel. 885 3253), has broadband access in air-conditioned comfort for F10¢ (US5¢/5p) a minute.

Mail -- The post office is on the main street east of the downtown commercial district. It's open Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm, Saturday 8am to noon.

Safety -- Savusavu generally is a safe place to visit, but you should always keep an eye on your personal property.

Visitor Information -- Your best bet for local information is Trip n Tour, in the Copra Shed (tel. 885 3154); this travel agency arranges tours and also rents bikes, scooters, and cars. You can find information on the Web at the Savusavu Tourism Association's site (www.fiji-savusavu.com).

Water -- The tap water in town and at the resorts is safe to drink.
