Frommer's Review
This luxurious resort is owned by toothy American motivational author and speaker Anthony Robbins, who visits several times a year and runs his "spa week" in a spectacular new facility with a grand sea view to accompany its full line of treatments ("self renewal" spa week guests have their own accommodation and dining area away from the main resort).
Robbins obviously finds any dull moment distasteful, for he has built an air-conditioned gym and basketball court, an electronic golf simulator, and full-size bowling alley (I kid you not). These indoor toys will come in handy since the climate here is borderline rain forest, and the pebbly beaches are not reason alone to spend your entire vacation here. This area has been geologically uplifted, so all buildings are on a shelf 10 to 20 feet above sea level. Nevertheless, Namale has excellent scuba diving and deep-sea fishing (the only two activities demanding an extra fee) plus windsurfing, horseback riding, and hiking.
The guest quarters are widely scattered in the blooming tropical gardens surrounding the main building, thus affording honeymoon-like privacy if not a setting directly on the ocean. Crown jewels here are two houses. The "Dream House" is a two-bedroom, two-bathroom minimansion with a kitchen, its own small pool, a whirlpool bathtub, and indoor and outdoor showers. Similarly equipped, the "Bula House" has only one bedroom, but there are two guest bungalows outside (add US$300 a night for each of those), and it has a Jacuzzi on its deck. Both the Dream and Bula houses have drop-down movie screens with wraparound sound systems (again, I kid you not). Your children can stay with you in the houses, but only if they're at least 12 years old (they are not allowed in the other bungalows unless you rent one just for them).
There's also a deluxe honeymoon bure with its own swimming pool plus a sunken bathtub and two-person shower. Four more honeymoon bures have bathrooms with Jacuzzi tubs, separate showers with indoor and outdoor entrances, and their own ceiling fans. Six older bures are much less spectacular, but they are attractively appointed nonetheless. If you're traveling by yourself, you can stay in one of these, but not in the larger units. Although the windows in all units are screened, the staff drops romantic mosquito nets over the beds at turndown.
The property sits on a narrow headland jutting out into Naidi Bay, upon whose point sits the main building, with a soaring Fijian-style thatch roof. Although you can dine inside, the choice tables are on four decks commanding excellent views from the point. Reflecting Robbins's culinary likes, the chef prepares vegetarian as well as fish and meat dishes.
