Frommer's Review
Originally known as Kontiki Resort, this property on Vanua Levu's southern coast has been considerably upgraded in recent years by its American owners. It is attractive primarily to serious divers, fishing enthusiasts, and golfers because it has no natural beach on the premises, although sand has been hauled in to create a lagoonside sunning area. It does sport two outdoor pools (one for adults only), a marina blasted into the reef, and a nine-hole, par-3 golf course beneath the coconut palms of an old plantation. A dirt track leads around the golf course and through a rain forest to the resort's own refreshing cascades, where there's a spa in two screen bungalows (you can easily work up a sweat just getting a treatment in this humid climate).
The Hibiscus Highway runs along the shoreline, separating the property from the lagoon. The land turns quickly from flat coastal shelf to hills, where most of the guest bungalows are perched, thus commanding views through the palms to the sea. All these hillside units have screened porches, and one has two bedrooms. Down at sea level, the more spacious "garden" units lack views but have small front yards behind picket fences, and they have four-poster beds with mosquito nets. All bungalows have ceiling fans hanging from peaked roofs (plans were to add air conditioners), and some have outdoor showers behind high rock walls. Guests can pay to go horseback riding, game fishing, and scuba diving.
