Small, straightforward, and charming, this is a high-quality Italian restaurant whose owners, the Alessio family, maintain a strict allegiance to the recipes and ingredients (especially truffles) of their original home in northern Italy. Set in the center of old town, without any view of the sea, it offers places for 30 diners at a time in a room that's ringed with art photographs of Italian wine, food products, and, of course, truffles. Menu items include lots of fresh fish (the owners make a trip to the fish market every morning at 7:30am), including whole sea bass roasted "on its bone" with olive oil and herbs. Pastas are made fresh almost every day and may include a succulent version of venison ravioli. A particularly unctuous starter is tajarin (strips of flat pasta), served with a relatively bland sauce of mushrooms and cream. The intent of this mild dish involves allowing the nutty, woodsy flavor of the truffles -- added table-side at the last minute -- to emerge, unencumbered by other, more strident flavors.
