The name of this restaurant is a pun -- in Hebrew, Am-burger means "people burger," and it's definitely a people's restaurant: The food is top quality, nicely prepared but without the pretensions you usually find in so many quality restaurants throughout Israel. It's famous for hamburgers -- quarter-pounders to three-quarters of a pound, made from freshly ground steak or lamb, and served with a variety of toppings -- but there's much, much more. Look for fried and grilled calamari; gooseliver pâté; crabs in butter, garlic, wine, and ginger; delicious goulash and French onion soup; grilled giant shrimps; veal kabobs in techina; spicy chicken wings; and pastas, schnitzel, good salads, and vegetarian dishes. Everything is tasty and reasonably priced, and main courses are served with vegetables, rice, or potatoes. The location, in the Rosh Pina Shopping Mall isn't atmospheric or quaint, but locals who know the many atmospheric tourist traps of Rosh Pina come here for excellent food, served in hefty portions, and easy style. Steak plates for two may run around $40 (£20), but most dishes, including fish and seafood, are under $25 (£13).
