Frommer's Review
Staying at this beautiful, historic kibbutz, founded in the 1930s (former Jerusalem Mayor Teddy Kollek and his wife were among Kibbutz Ein Gev's first members), is a special pleasure. Both the kibbutz itself and the guest facilities are in so paradisiacal a setting that it's hard to believe this was a barren, stony stretch of shoreline only 60 years ago.
Partly set in a date palm grove and a eucalyptus grove beside the lake, the Resort Village offers basic, modern family or group accommodations in five-person bungalows that include a bedroom-kitchenette with dining nook and a small bunk-bed room off the main room. The bungalows also sport picnic tables and a place to barbecue. There are also newer, standard double rooms in one- and two-story motel-style buildings overlooking the lake but a bit away from the beach; these are also equipped with fridges or small kitchenettes. Newer, more upscale units were built in 2000, and these are in the higher price category. There is a minimarket for groceries in the resort; Kibbutz Ein Gev, 1km (1/2 mile) down the road, has an excellent lakeside fish restaurant that offers free transportation and discounts for Resort Village guests. The Ein Gev Resort Village beach is the loveliest on the lake, but there are no special activities for children. Off-season or midweek, see if it's possible to get a four-person bungalow for the price of a double: The bungalows are in the area right beside the beach, under the date palms.
