Although it's on the shore of Lake Union, this place has limited views, which is probably why it's more popular with locals than with tourists. However, you can watch seaplanes take off and land right in front of the restaurant, which lends a strong sense of being in Seattle. Best of all, prices are considerably lower than at most tourist-targeted waterfront restaurants around town. Good choices include the New York steak topped with blue cheese and, at lunch, the grilled mahi mahi sandwich with chipotle aioli. This is also a popular watering hole for marina types who arrive by boat.

Another Bluwater Bistro is near Woodland Park Zoo at 7900 E. Green Lake Dr. N. (tel. 206/524-3985), and a third is over on Lake Washington at 102 Lakeside Ave. (tel. 206/328-2233).
