Frommer's Review
At the north end of Belltown near Seattle Center, this hidden gem is one of my favorite Seattle restaurants. The setting, with its Japanese lanterns and rice-paper umbrellas hanging from the ceiling, is quintessential Seattle casual, while the menu is superbly prepared creative French cuisine at very reasonable prices. What could be more perfect? Attention to the tiniest of details is what makes this place so special. Meals start with perfectly crusty bread that is served with both olive oil and butter, plus the creamiest little olives you've ever tasted. Don't eat all the bread; you'll want some for sopping up sauces. I like to start with the pickle plate, which consists of an assortment of house-made pickled vegetables and fruits. Salads can be artfully composed and packed with distinctive flavors. Entrees lean toward hearty farmhouse French, including a succulent lamb sausage served with chickpea puree. Crab cakes and the wild-mushroom flan are two other good bets. By the way, the Boat Street Café is only 2 blocks north of the Olympic Sculpture Park. The monthly Sunday family dinners are worth reserving in advance.
