Frommer's Review
Who says vegetarianism and decadence have to be mutually exclusive? Here at Carmelita's, the two coexist quite nicely. Located in the Phinney Ridge neighborhood north of Woodland Park Zoo, this very Northwestern restaurant features lots of natural woods, a relaxed ambience, and a seasonal menu that incorporates the best local ingredients. In warm weather, there's seating out on the lovely garden patio. On a recent visit, main courses included polenta cakes with saffron sauce, fennel, cherry tomatoes, and Swiss chard; pizza with red-onion marmalade, fontina, gruyere, port-soaked currants, and chili oil; and Meyer lemon risotto with asparagus, fava beans, spring onions, goat cheese, parmesan, and arugula. Wash it all down with the house-made tamarind-ginger lemonade -- there's nothing as refreshing (though be forewarned: It's got a kick to it!). And for dessert, definitely go for the warm chocolate "muck muck" (a fallen chocolate cake with seasonal compote).
