Frommer's Review
There's nothing like a walk along Alki Beach to put a person in the mood for fish and chips. Although many places along Seattle's favorite beach allow you to indulge in this calorific classic, the Spud is my favorite. Open since 1935 and claiming to be Seattle's original fast-food restaurant, The Spud is a well-oiled operation (in more ways than one). Serving fish and chips and little else, this beachfront place stays packed on warm summer days. After you get your order (despite the long line, it doesn't take that long), you can head across the street to the beach or upstairs to the restaurant's glass-walled second-story dining room. The Special (three pieces of cod with fries and a drink) is a perennial favorite, but I prefer the halibut and chips.
