Planning a TripGetting There Selinunte is on the southern coast of Sicily and is best explored by car, as public transportation can be awkward. From Agrigento, take Route 115 northwest into Castelvetrano; then follow the signposted secondary road marked SELINUNTE, which leads south to the sea. Allow at least 2 hours from either Palermo or Agrigento. If you prefer to take the train from Trapani or Marsala, you can make rail connections to Castelvetrano on the southern coast of Sicily, 23km (14 miles) from the ruins. The one-way rail fare from Marsala is 3.60€ ($4.70); from Trapani, 5.25€ ($6.85). The trip to Trapani to Castelvetrano takes 1 hour and 10 minutes; from Marsala, only 40 minutes. Once at Castelvetrano, board a bus for the final lap of the journey to Selinunte. Lumia buses (tel. 0922-20414) run to Castelvetrano from Agrigento; call for schedule information. Buses arrive in Castelvetrano in front of the rail depot. From here, you must go the rest of the way by a bus operated by Autoservizi Salemi (tel. 0923-981120); the one-way fare for the 20-minute trip is 1.50€ ($1.95). Visitor Information The tourist office, Via Caboto Giovanni (tel. 0924-46251), near the archaeological garden, is open Monday to Saturday 8am to 2pm and 3 to 8pm, Sunday 9am to noon and 3 to 6pm.
