Bear Paw Lodge

An environmentally oriented couple running Kayak Adventures Worldwide open their remarkable log house in a forest outside of town to visitors with the same warmth and energy that has made their paddling business a success (and kayak customers get a discount, too). The lodge has four rooms: a big master bedroom under the eaves and three simpler but very comfortable rooms with shared bathroom. Guests use all common rooms, including cooking any meals in the large kitchen and using the broadband-connected computer, and there's a big hot tub on the deck. Check in at the kayak shop downtown at 328 3rd Ave.; you need a car and directions to get to the house, 4 1/2 miles out of town.
