People on the Water ReviewLocated in the basement of the Hilton Hotel, this elegant, award-winning restaurant specializes in fresh seafood from Ningbo, in case the restaurant's blue hues, flowing water, glass bridge, and tanks of fresh fish hadn't already alerted you. Though the average diner cannot discern any real differences between Ningbo and Shanghainese cuisine, here you'll find some wonderfully subtle and unusual combinations of flavor and ingredients in the seafood dishes you're not even likely to encounter in even many local restaurants. Popular dishes include the deep-fried crab with sinfully thick roe, steamed snow cabbage with yellow fish, clams on a sizzling plate, and braised river eel. The shrimp with crispy seaweed is unusual, if not to everyone's taste. The staff can be helpful, but service drops off considerably when it gets busy. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
