Frommer's Review
When it opened in 1988, this 43-story circular tower with a prime location in the French Concession was the first Chinese-managed international luxury hotel in Shanghai. Whereas the Jin Jiang Hotel is historic, everything about the Tower is modern and glossy, starting with its three-story marble lobby with plenty of colored glass. Despite its five-star rating and renovations in 2002, however, there's a tired air about the hotel and complaints of poor maintenance. Guest rooms are rather small but well equipped. Service is adequate, but with so many Chinese and Western tour groups traipsing through, you're unlikely to get much personal attention. The best feature of the hotel is its sightseeing elevators that whisk guests to the rooftop revolving restaurant. Even if you don't stay or dine here, it's worth taking a ride up for the free views of Shanghai.
Facilities:
3 restaurants; outdoor swimming pool; health club with Jacuzzi and sauna; concierge; tour desk; business center; shopping arcade; salon; 24-hr. room service; same-day laundry service/dry cleaning
