Frommer's Review
Opened in 1986 as the first foreign-managed luxury hotel in Shanghai, the former Sheraton Hua Ting reverted to local management in 1996. After many years of wear, the hotel was renovated in 2007, which lends a much-needed fresh sheen to its five-star facilities. Rooms vary in size depending on where they're located in the "S" shaped building. Deluxe rooms, larger and considerably nicer than superior rooms, sport modern furniture, thick carpets, and comfortable beds. Marble bathrooms are simple but clean and come with full amenities. This is the nicest hotel in the Shanghai Stadium area, but service is just average, so stay here only if you can arrange a substantial savings on room rates. And if you have nothing better to do in the evening, you can always pop down to the bar to catch the famous Peace Hotel Jazz Band, temporarily transplanted here while the Peace is being renovated.
Facilities:
3 restaurants; deli; 2 bars; indoor pool health club w/Jacuzzi and sauna; bowling alley; concierge; tour desk; business center; salon; 24-hr. room service; same-day laundry service/dry cleaning; nonsmoking rooms; executive-level rooms

| 0 stars | Frommer's Recommended | |
| 1 stars | Frommer's Highly Recommended | |
| 2 stars | Frommer's Very Highly Recommended | |
| 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
