Regal International East Asia Hotel Review

The internationally managed, 22-story Regal Hotel has bright, modern guest rooms that were renovated in 2008, and come with bedside electronic controls, robes, slippers, and all the amenities of a five-star establishment. There's also a dedicated ladies floor with extra amenities. The hotel's Shanghai International Tennis Center offers some of the city's best sporting facilities, including a center court that seats 1,200 spectators. There's a 12-lane bowling alley and an indoor squash court. The hotel is located along trendy Hengshan Lu in the French Concession, the Metro is a block away, and the shopping district of Xujiahui is a 10-minute walk away. Service is efficient enough, but drops off when it gets busy. Tip: Request a room number that ends in "9" -- these are significantly larger than the rest.

Facilities:
3 restaurants, patisserie, bar; babysitting; concierge; executive-level rooms; large health club and spa w/Jacuzzi; large indoor pool; 11 championship tennis courts; 24-hr. room service

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
