Grand Hyatt Shanghai Review

The Grand Hyatt is no longer the world's tallest hotel, having been eclipsed by its sister property the Park Hyatt in the neighboring Shanghai World Financial Center, but it's still highly attractive to many travelers. Running from the 54th to the 88th floors of the Jin Mao Tower, the ultraluxurious Grand Hyatt is more of a novelty hotel than a practical one. True, the views of the Bund and Pudong are astonishing, when you are not fogged in, that is; the guest rooms, which combine Art Deco and traditional Chinese motifs with high-tech designs, are lush and luxurious; and the fine dining options are unparalleled, but the burden of renown has also made the staff a bit standoffish. The hotel's high-flying address means you should allow extra time to get to your destination. Those prone to vertigo would do well to choose another pied-a-terre.

Facilities:
6 restaurants, 2 lounges; babysitting; concierge; executive-level rooms; health club w/Jacuzzi and sauna; indoor sky pool; 24-hr. room service; spa

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
