St. Regis Shanghai (Shanghai Ruiji Hongta Dajiudian) [SS] -- The handsome St. Regis might well be the luxury hotel at which to stay in town were it not for its less-convenient location in Pudong. Standard rooms are large (48 sq. m/157 sq. ft.), and gorgeously furnished with comfortable sofas, ergonomic Herman Miller "Aeron" chairs, Bose CD radios, and "rainforest" showers in the spacious marble bathrooms. But what sets the St. Regis apart from its competitors is its signature 24-hour butler service, which the hotel initially pioneered and which other hotels have tried to copy. As part of their "Lifestyle Butler Service," St. Regis butlers can press clothing, make dinner reservations, and even act as tour guides about town, escorting guests interested in the Chinese art scene to galleries or the private studios of local Chinese artists. A ladies-only floor features women butlers and a host of special in-room amenities including toiletries by Bulgari. Service is top-notch throughout.
