Frommer's Review
Were it not for its less convenient location in the still-emerging business district of Pudong, the handsome St. Regis may well be the luxury hotel to stay at in town. Standard rooms, the largest in the city (48 sq. m/517 sq. ft.), are gorgeously furnished with comfortable sofas, large desks, ergonomic Herman Miller Aeron chairs, and Bose CD radios. The marble bathrooms are spacious and fitted with decadent "rainforest" showers, separate larger-than-average bathtubs, and a flurry of amenities. The hotel also offers complimentary wireless Internet throughout the hotel, happy hour cocktails for all in the Executive Lounge, and three women-only floors with a host of special in-room amenities including toiletries by Bulgari. But what sets the St. Regis apart from its competitors (the hotel initially pioneered its signature 24-hour butler service which other hotels have tried to copy) is its personalized, customized service as embodied in its new "Lifestyle Butler Service." These days, St. Regis butlers will not only press clothing and make dinner reservations, they can act as personal tour guides about town for guests and escort guests interested in the Chinese art scene to museums, galleries, or the private homes and studios of local Chinese artists. With such pampering and savoir-vivre at your fingertips, you may want to move in permanently.
