Frommer's Review
If you don't mind the lack of frills and services, staying right in the thick of the Nanjing Lu Pedestrian Mall, and in a historic building to boot, doesn't come any cheaper than this. Located in the neoclassical former Shanghai Sincere Department Store, this hotel was renovated in 2005, so rooms and furnishings are still relatively new and clean. But if maintenance is like the service, which is perfunctory at best, surly and unhelpful at worst, then you can expect the usual precipitous decline in upkeep. For now, though, rooms have functional modern furniture, comfortable beds with fresh white linens, and clean bathrooms, and are perfectly adequate for a few nights' stay. Guests are mostly Chinese, but bilingual signage and the staff's tenuous grasp of some English terms make this a manageable option for the foreigner. The deluxe rooms facing Nanjing Lu are worth spending an extra ¥40/$5 on.
Facilities:
Restaurant; tour desk; business center; salon; room service; next-day laundry service
