Located just south of the Regal International Hotel, this four-star French modern hotel, formerly the Picardie Apartments built in 1934, looks old and wan on the outside, but the inside was thoroughly renovated in 2002 and now offers a comfortable stay at reasonable prices. Rooms are spacious and equipped with modern furniture and full amenities. If all the double rooms are being discounted to the same rate (as they often are), be sure to ask for the higher-end Deluxe standard doubles, as these have large bathrooms that come with separate tub and shower and even a television set. Service is adequate for basic needs. It's a short walk to the subway, shops, and restaurants just up Hengshan Lu, and only a slightly longer walk to the Xujiahui area to the south.
