This charming little complex started out as a small artists' colony, but has since expanded into the neighboring lanes as traditional shikumen houses have been converted into a veritable maze of open-air cafes, artists' studios, and small shops and boutiques selling everything from the latest fashions to home furnishings and Tibetan collectibles. It's become a de rigueur stop for many visitors, resulting in big crowds and high prices. The complex is open daily 10am to 10pm.
