This is one of the newest boutique hotels in Shanghai, which opened in the heart of Xintiandi in early 2011 with great fanfare. Resplendent with a 35-seat martini bar and lounge and three restaurants, the Langham is at the crossroads of two of Shanghai's most interesting places for visitors: The tree-lined streets of the historic former French Concession and the tourist and commercial brazenness of Xintiandi. It's well-located for exploration of these areas as well as any other in central Shanghai. The award-winning T'ang Court restaurant serves up fine Cantonese dishes alongside an international buffet-style restaurant and an outdoor lounge and bar. The layout of the restaurant is unusual, as most tables are tucked into nooks and crannies to maximize privacy. Just a few minutes after 7pm every day, guests can head to the atrium to watch the Langham's multi-tiered chandelier change colors during a brief lightshow. The Langham's rooms have an Old-world feel with dark woods, patterned carpet and some leather furniture. Visitors have consistently given this boutique hotel high marks for service, and the Chuan spa is affordable compared with its 5-star sister hotels, with a 90-minute body massage costing 688 rmb. Eva Longoria, Nicole Kidman and Fan Bing Bing all stayed here.
