Making like a fish and swimming about with a snorkel and fins, let alone air tanks and weights, isn't the only way to get up close to the corals and sea creatures. In fact, it's probably a lot simpler to head down to Sharm al Maya, the bay just past the Old Town of Sharm, and get onboard one of the Seascope fleet of "submarines." Unlike their counterparts in Hurghada, these don't submerge completely, but once you're downstairs and looking out the portholes at the sea life, you can't tell the difference. The trip, which visits the corals around the mouth of the bay, is very safe and takes about 90 minutes. Subs leave about every 30 minutes from the dock at the beach, and there are around 20 trips a day.
