Shelter Island's best restaurant is in the flowery, formal, and intimate dining room of the Ram's Head Inn. Both meat and seafood are done equally well. Dig into the jumbo lump crab and lobster risotto with chanterelles and wild asparagus, the American red snapper with wilted spinach, morels, and lemongrass butter, or the Opal Valley Australian rack of lamb with garlic pommes anna and rosemary jus. The service and wine list are also very good.
