Piccolo Hotel Etruria

This small family-run hotel could thumb its nose at the big corporate chains: It offers equally comfortable modernity with twice the character at one-third the price. In both the main building and the dipendenza across the street, the rooms have tiled floors, wood-toned built-in furnishings with stone-topped desks and end tables, and leather strap chairs. The bathrooms are immaculate, and everything is kept spotless. This place gets a star for being as clean, comfortable, and central as you're ever going to find, especially at these prices. Book early. The only real drawback is the 1am curfew, which unfortunately is not when the rest of this neighborhood goes to bed, so nocturnal noise could be a problem.
