The Wyman Hotel & Inn Review

My top choice for overnight lodging in Silverton, the Wyman fits in beautifully with the historic ambience of this Old West mining town, but, then, it ought to -- the hotel's been here almost as long as the town. Built in 1902 and now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this handsome red-sandstone building has arched windows, high ceilings, Victorian-style wallpaper, and rooms and common areas furnished with antiques dating from the 1870s to the early 1900s -- mostly Renaissance and East Lake styles. Rooms are individually decorated and range in size. The hotel also offers a two-room suite, a three-room suite, and a very large family room. In addition to the rooms in the hotel, a Southern Pacific Railroad caboose has been converted into a honeymoon suite, with a hand-carved antique bed from Spain and a two-person whirlpool tub. (Four other units also have two-person whirlpool tubs.) Ten rooms have showers only, and all have top-quality king- or queen-size feather beds with down pillows and down duvets. Although the rooms are wonderful, it would be well worth coming here simply for the food, which is truly a gourmet experience.

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
