The best golf course is the Estoril-Sol Golf Club, Estrada da Lagoa Azul, outside Sintra (tel. 21/924-04-44). At the foot of the Sintra mountain range, the course lies some 32km (20 miles) from Lisbon. The Palácio Nacional da Pena looms overhead, and the course occupies a forest setting with acacias and pines. It's fairly short, stretching 4,429m (14,527 ft.) and offers only 9 holes. A round costs 30€ ($39) Monday to Friday, 35€ ($46) Saturday and Sunday, and 20€ ($26) after 4pm Monday to Friday. It's open Monday to Friday 8am to 7pm, and Saturday and Sunday 8am to 8pm.
