Planning a Trip

Getting There

To get here from Puerto Plata, take the autopista (Rte. 5) east for about 30 minutes. If you venture off the main highway, anticipate enormous potholes. Taxis, charter buses, and públicos from Puerto Plata and Playa Dorada let passengers off at the stairs leading down from the highway to Sosúa Beach. Most rides cost RD$60 to RD$100.

Getting Around

Most visitors walk to where they want to go in Sosúa. Most of the taxis wait for passengers in the center of town at the intersection of calles Pedro Clisante and Arzeno. Motoconchos run up and down the town and all around all day long, most rides costing RD$60 to RD$120, which is about one-third the price of a typical cab. You might want to pay the added dinero, however, since these motorcycle drivers are reckless and dangerous, speeding through traffic as if they didn't hold your life in their maniacal hands.
