Planning a Trip

Before leaving home, write or call ahead for specific information on sports and sightseeing. Contact South Carolina Division of Tourism, 1205 Pendleton St. (PO Box 71), Columbia, SC 29201 (tel. 866/224-9339 or 803/734-1700; www.discoversouthcarolina.com). It can also furnish South Carolina: Smiling Faces, Beautiful Places, a detailed booklet with photos that cover each region of the state.

When you enter South Carolina, look for one of the nine welcome centers located on virtually every major highway near the border with neighboring states. Information sources for specific destinations in the state are listed in the individual chapters of this guide.
